Rhode Island Alimony is viewed as a rehabilitative tool intended to provide temporary support and is based on need.
It is the specific facts of each case which determine what is “rehabilitation” for the individual awarded alimony. Among the factors a Court can consider are:
- the length of the marriage
- the conduct of the parties during the marriage
- the health
- age
- station
- occupation
- amount and source of income
- vocational skills
- employability of the parties
- the state and the limitations and (especially) the needs of each of the parties
